August 19th

Distance: 8 miles
Song of the Run: Dirty Little Secret - All-American Rejects

Run Notes:
Coming back from a long run and putting in eight miles makes me feel pretty damn good. Got a late start which was unfortunate since it is another 90 degree day.

Running Shoes
I got a new pair of running shoes yesterday and it makes me happy. I have been running in Asics Gel-Kayanos for years and other than the usual toenail problems they have been good to me. I have been running in them so long I thought that it might be time to try a different shoe. Little did I know what I had let myself in for.

I began to research running shoes and was overwhelmed. Fist you must determine your foot type. Do you have a high, normal, or low arch? What is your gait? Are you a pronator, supinator, or neutral? Then there is the question of what type of runner are you. Trails? Racing? Are you looking for shoe with stability, cushioning or responsive one?

So many shoes, so many questions! My head was beginning to swim. How did I arrive at wearing Kayanos? I guess I must of answered all of these questions at one time.

I went to a couple of local running stores and mentioned that I was thinking of changing shoes after years of running in a certain pair. At each store the salespeople there looked at me like I was crazy. Why would I change after all these years?
I thought I might find something better and cheaper. Every person told me to stay with the same shoe. Well, that would be easier than trying on 15 different shoes.

In the end I had the answers to all of those questions. So tomorrow I will put my new Kayanos on and start breaking them in for the road race.
